Bruins and Bitzy Stun Panthers

An amazing game for young Bruins star Byron Bitz. Bitzy chipped in two goals and took to the ice in the final minute but was unable to come away with the hat trick. With the B's winding down a 6-1 one win, the crowd begged and pleaded Coach Claude to put in Bitzy in the final minute with loud "we want Bitz" cheers bouncing off the Garden walls. When Coach obliged, the noise exploded as Bitz lept over the wall and on to the ice. Must have been a very nice moment for such a young player.

The Bruins cruised almost the entire game, holding large leads all night. In addition to Bitzy's two goals, Bergy contributed one in the opening seconds along with lovely goals from Aaron Ward, Mark Stuart, and the returning Michael Ryder. Ryder proved to be just what the Bruins were missing on the power play, hopefully turning the pp situation around in his first game back with his man-advantage goal.

Penalty Box: A game like this, no one deserves a penalty. If I had to dole one out, it would be to Milan Lucic for his hooking penalty in the final few seconds. Who knows if Bitzy would've gotten the hat downpour if the B's had kept that final minute momentum...

The Bruins continue their home stand on Thursday, when they take on the Anaheim Ducks visiting from the opposite side of the country. Should be an interesting bi-coastal battle.

Bruins Struck By Lightning

The Bruins fell once again in Florida by a score of 4-3. A tied game late in the third period, a delay of game penalty by Andrew Ference opened the door for Tampa Bay to jump ahead with about a minute and a half left in the game. Scoring for the Bruins was Zdeno Chara, Andrew Ference, and the oft-snake bitten Phil Kessel, who snapped a 14 game scoreless skid.

Penalty Box: This one is obvious for anyone who watched the final few minutes. The hilarity of Manny Fernandez falling down TWICE en route to the bench for the extra skater takes the cake for today's penalty box.

The Bruins will open a six game home stand (desperately needed in my opinion) on Tuesday when last Saturday's foe the Florida Panthers return the visit. Early reports have Michael Ryder possibly making a return from his facial fracture surgery...

Bruins Continue to Struggle

After finally breaking their losing streak with a win over Carolina, the Bruins once again continued to struggle with a loss to the Florida Panthers. The Panthers' Vokoun was amazing in net turning away shot after shot from the Bruins to secure the shut out and the win for Florida 2-0.

Despite the high number of shots the Bruins were able to get off, 41 total, the feisty Panthers were able to connect on 2 of their 29. Patrice Bergeron, who broke his scoring slump last game with an empty netter, led the B's with 8 shots. Most disturbing for the Bruins was the continuation of the terrible power play. The Bruins were granted two 4 minute penalties and were unable to do much of anything with them.

Penalty Box: Loooooooonnnnnnnggg Road Trips
The Bruins are currently at the tail end of a 5 game road trip. They have not taken the ice at the garden since February 10th's game vs the sharks. Hope the Celtics are keepin the arena warm!

Boston's Bears will not have much time to dwell on their loss as they are back on the ice tomorrow with a game in Tampa. After the matinee, the Bruins will return to their home ice for a nice long home stand. Hopefully that will jump start the struggling Boston Boys...

Sharks Trounce Bruins

In the battle of the top two teams in the league, #2 came out on top. Billed as one of the biggest games of the season for the Bruins, it seems the Bruins only showed up for two periods. Timmy started out well in net, only allowing a single goal in the first two periods. Milan Lucic gave the B's the lead after the first two periods with two in the first. Things fell apart for Timmy and the B's however in the third period. The Sharks and Joe Thornton were able to pour in four more goals of their own to take the game 5-2. Jumbo Joe himself even got on the goal-scoring parade, potting one at the house of his former team about midway through the third.

Even more upsetting for the Bruins were the injuries that they sustained in the physical game. Petteri Nokelainen was bloodied in the first by an apparent stick to the face, but did not receive a call much to the chagrin of the bruins. Noke did not return to the game and at last report was taken to the hospital and is visiting doctors wit an eye injury. Also lost to the Bruins was Chuck Kobasew, who after missing much of the second returned only to be knocked out again in the third with an 'upper body' injury. No word on his status for the future.

Penalty Box: The Bruins power play for continuing to struggle with an 0-5 showing vs the Sharks

Claude Julien & co. will have to re-group and put this very tough loss behind them. They will face another tough challenge Friday night when they visit the New Jersey Devils to kick off a lengthy road trip.

Jones & Flyers Beat Bruins

As if losing the game in overtime wasn't bad enough, the killing blow came in the fact that it was old nemesis Randy Jones who knocked his shot off Andrew Ference and into the net to give Philly the 4-3 win in the OT. The boo birds were out in full force all night whenever Randy Jones touched the puck; the devastating hit form behind he put on B's fan favorite Patrice Bergeron still fresh in the fans' minds. Also hearing from the B's faithful was old friend Glen Metropolit, who filled in admirably for Bergeron last season. A hero's welcome at first, the cheers quickly turned to jeers for Metro when he banged a shot past the returning Manny Fernandez in the 2nd.

Despite Manny's relatively strong start, his first in more than a month, the Bruins found themselves facing another overtime, their second in as many games. With a 3-1 lead after the first frame, the B's and Manny let the stubborn Flyers back in the game. The B's lost the extra point when Randy Jones' shot careened off Andrew Ference and angled into the net.

Penalty Box: A minor penalty to the awfulness of facial fractures
The B's lost a lot of talent in their lineup with Michael Ryder being out indefinitely with the facial fracture he sustained the previous game versus Ottawa.

A big day in Boston this Tuesday, with the #2 team in the league, the San Jose Sharks, in town. Adding to the story line is the return of former Bruin Joe Thornton to Boston. The B's former captain will be making his second return to his Boston since his '05 trade. His first visit didn't get past the first period, when he was tossed for a hit from behind. Game's on Versus!

B's Stuff Sens in Shootout

The Bruins were able to pull out the win after an epic shootout. It was an unlikely hero, veteran PJ Axelsson with the goal in round 5 to give the Bruins the 2 points. Thomas produced save after spectacular save to turn away all 5 Ottawa shooters after keeping his net empty in an action-packed overtime.

The game started out well for the B's, who held a 2-0 lead in the 2nd with goals from Wheeler and Chara. Ottawa, however, would come storming back to hold a 3-2 lead in the third. A high sticking on Michael Ryder, which drew quite a bit of blood and therefore the extra two minutes gave the B's the opportunity they needed to tie the game back up with a goal from Chuck Kobasew. A nice finish to what was the epitome of an up and down game.

Penalty Box: A team penalty for 'falling asleep at the wheel'
Luckily the Bruins were able to wake up after the penalty on Ryder and pull out the win that a first place team should against a team at the bottom of the barrel.

The Bruins will be seeing some familiar faces on Saturday; familiar as they just saw the Philadelphia Flyers Wednesday. Puck drop slated for 1:00. Another lovely Saturday afternoon at the Garden in the making for sure!

Bruins' Bad Boy Lucic Out Tonight...

Word from the Boston Globe and their amazing Bruins' Blog is that Milan Lucic will miss tonight's game in Ottawa. Looch took a puck to the foot last night and is now apparently suffering the effects. Looch reportedly underwent x-rays last night and is experiencing major swelling...

Bruins Top Flyers

The Bruins were able to pull out the decisive victory over the 'Broad Street Bullies' with an excellent goaltending performance. With Timmy only letting in 1 of the 22 shots he faced, the Bruins provided more than enough offensive support to give Timmy the win.

The Bruins stuck first with a goal from Michael Ryder in the second, but the Flyers tied it up with a goal by Scott Hartnell soon after. The Bruins pulled away in the third with goals from Krejci and Dennis Wideman to seal the win.

Penalty Box: Back To Back Games
The Bruins are back in action tonight versus the Ottawa Sens. A tough stretch for the B's, they play back to back games with only a day break before another physical game with the Flyers at home.

The Bruins are in Canada's lovely capital tonight for a matchup with the struggeling Senators. Not a tough matchup, the Bruins will have to maintain focus however after playing the night before.

A Winning Weekend

After a minor stumbling block last Thursday with a 5-4 overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils, the Boston Bruins rebounded very nicely with a sweep of this weekend's back to back set.

First up for the Bruins were the New York Rangers on Saturday. With Manny Fernandez still sitting out with back spasms, the 'goalie of the future' Tuukka Rask made his first start of the season. And what a terrific start for Tuukka it was. Turning away all 35 shots he faced, Tuukka scored the shutout with a 1-0 win over the Rangers. Marc Savard scored the only offense the B's would need with a goal in the 2nd period.

The Bruins went right back to work with a Sunday matinee in Montreal. The Bruins remained focus and were able to emerge from 'enemy territory' with a very lovely 3-1 win. Always feels like even more with a win over hated rivals. And with their win, the Bruins amazingly win the season series against the bleu, blanc, et rouge. Timmy stood strong in net, only letting in a Robert Lang goal in the first. The Bruins responded with goals from Wideman, Thornton, and a gutsy empty netter from Savvy. Also stepping up for the team was Patrice Bergeron, who contributed some key face-off wins. Bergeron also got involved in both of the team's major scrums, a rarity for the seemingly mild mannered Bergy.

Penalty Box: Obviously, this one goes without saying. The throwback (circa 1912) jersey's are more than deserving of a major penalty, if not a game misconduct. It looked like the Bruins were taking on Montreal's finest prison team with the multicolored jersey's the Habs were sporting.

The B's are next back in action Wednesday when they take on the Philadelphia Flyers. With the bad blood between these two teams, there are guaranteed fireworks in the making. Also interesting to see how Bergeron will react facing Randy Jones and the Flyers, responsible for Bergy's devastating concussion last season...
