As if losing the game in overtime wasn't bad enough, the killing blow came in the fact that it was old nemesis Randy Jones who knocked his shot off Andrew Ference and into the net to give Philly the 4-3 win in the OT. The boo birds were out in full force all night whenever Randy Jones touched the puck; the devastating hit form behind he put on B's fan favorite Patrice Bergeron still fresh in the fans' minds. Also hearing from the B's faithful was old friend Glen Metropolit, who filled in admirably for Bergeron last season. A hero's welcome at first, the cheers quickly turned to jeers for Metro when he banged a shot past the returning Manny Fernandez in the 2nd.
Despite Manny's relatively strong start, his first in more than a month, the Bruins found themselves facing another overtime, their second in as many games. With a 3-1 lead after the first frame, the B's and Manny let the stubborn Flyers back in the game. The B's lost the extra point when Randy Jones' shot careened off Andrew Ference and angled into the net.
Penalty Box: A minor penalty to the awfulness of facial fractures
The B's lost a lot of talent in their lineup with Michael Ryder being out indefinitely with the facial fracture he sustained the previous game versus Ottawa.
A big day in Boston this Tuesday, with the #2 team in the league, the San Jose Sharks, in town. Adding to the story line is the return of former Bruin Joe Thornton to Boston. The B's former captain will be making his second return to his Boston since his '05 trade. His first visit didn't get past the first period, when he was tossed for a hit from behind. Game's on Versus!
