In the battle of the top two teams in the league, #2 came out on top. Billed as one of the biggest games of the season for the Bruins, it seems the Bruins only showed up for two periods. Timmy started out well in net, only allowing a single goal in the first two periods. Milan Lucic gave the B's the lead after the first two periods with two in the first. Things fell apart for Timmy and the B's however in the third period. The Sharks and Joe Thornton were able to pour in four more goals of their own to take the game 5-2. Jumbo Joe himself even got on the goal-scoring parade, potting one at the house of his former team about midway through the third.
Even more upsetting for the Bruins were the injuries that they sustained in the physical game. Petteri Nokelainen was bloodied in the first by an apparent stick to the face, but did not receive a call much to the chagrin of the bruins. Noke did not return to the game and at last report was taken to the hospital and is visiting doctors wit an eye injury. Also lost to the Bruins was Chuck Kobasew, who after missing much of the second returned only to be knocked out again in the third with an 'upper body' injury. No word on his status for the future.
Penalty Box: The Bruins power play for continuing to struggle with an 0-5 showing vs the Sharks
Claude Julien & co. will have to re-group and put this very tough loss behind them. They will face another tough challenge Friday night when they visit the New Jersey Devils to kick off a lengthy road trip.
